About
The Green Block Gallery features the art work of the late Grant McGean (1952-2019). His style is strongly influenced by the abstract expressionism movement.
The gallery was started in late 2013, re-designed in 2018 and became an e-commerce site in March 2020. It is administered by Grant's widow Wendy Craig who also writes the blog.
Highlights of Grant's art career can be found on the Exhibitions page. Grant described his early life and art career as follows:
I was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. My father was a Korean War veteran and was posted to Germany and various locations in Canada when I was a child.
I have made art all my life. I studied at the Alberta College of Art and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and I also have a Bachelor of Education from the University of New Brunswick. Painting and drawing were my areas of concentration in my formal art education. At age 39 I turned my focus to cutting linoleum. This took me to Toronto where I spent two years as a renter in a printmaking studio. Later I expanded my skills to include woodcuts, dry points, mezzotints, monoprints and digital art, as well as painting and other media.
I have exhibited in Japan, England, Germany, the United States, Argentina, Egypt and Canada. My work is in the permanent collections of the Tama Art University Museum in Tokyo and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Museum, a modern homage to the great library of Alexandria.
I hope you enjoy the work.
